Police in Amritsar reported eight arrests across separate rural and city investigations on September 29 and 30, 2026, with recoveries of assault rifles, pistols and heroin. In the rural case, officers arrested Sandeep Singh, his wife Kamaljit Kaur and Kaur's brother Bikramjit Singh. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said officers recovered an AK-47, an AK-56, three magazines, ten live cartridges and 10.030 kg of heroin from the accused.
Border Range Inspector General Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said investigators believed the family used about an acre of leased guava orchard at Modhe village, roughly 500 metres from the border fence, to collect consignments dropped by drones. Police alleged that the couple managed the operation while Bikramjit retrieved and delivered cargo. Gharinda police carried out the arrests following intelligence; the case was registered on September 25, The Statesman reported.
The following day, Amritsar Commissionerate Police announced five arrests in three separate operations. Commissioner Harmanbir Singh Gill told reporters that officers recovered 13 pistols, 22 live cartridges and 3.267 kg of heroin. The Times of India's Yudhvir Rana reported that the weapons included eight PX-3 .30-bore pistols, three other .30-bore pistols, a Glock 9mm and another 9mm pistol. A BMW allegedly used in the activities was also seized.
City police identified the five arrested people as Krish Gold, Kunal Mehta, Robin and Jaskaran Singh of Amritsar, and Jobanpreet Singh of Tarn Taran. Gill said investigators were pursuing other people suspected of involvement in the arms and drug networks. The city recoveries were announced by Gill, separately from Bhullar's account of the rural orchard investigation; the reported eight arrests cover both sets of police action.
