The Central Electricity Authority opened a two-day conference in New Delhi on 14 October to examine where artificial intelligence can be applied across India's electricity system. The international event brought government officials, utilities, researchers, industry representatives and technology providers to the Manekshaw Centre.

Sessions were organised around demand and renewable-energy forecasting, grid control, asset management, predictive maintenance and cybersecurity. Participants also considered digital twins, drones and robotic inspection tools for power infrastructure. These applications address different operational problems and would require reliable data, testing and safeguards before deployment at scale.

CEA chairperson Ghanshyam Prasad said the authority would prepare a roadmap for making the sector AI-enabled. Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal and other officials linked the discussion to reliability, efficiency and the integration of new technologies across the electricity value chain.

The meeting also included international organisations, academic institutions and equipment makers, creating a forum for technical collaboration and investment discussions. The official account describes proposals and demonstrations rather than adopted national standards, procurement decisions or measured improvements in grid performance.
