Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a semiconductor roundtable at Seva Teerth on September 16, 2026. The PMO account describes a discussion about industry participation in skills, innovation and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

Modi referred to a target of training one crore people in AI. That is a broad technology-skilling ambition, distinct from the specialised design, manufacturing and research capabilities discussed at a semiconductor meeting; the two should not be read as identical workforce categories.

He also invited suggestions on policy and administrative measures while promising a predictable, responsive policy environment. The exchange linked companies' technical requirements with government decisions about the conditions under which the sector develops.

Participants included representatives of Micron, ASML, Applied Materials, AMD, Intel and Tata Electronics, among others. The PMO described discussion spanning manufacturing, research and supporting industries, giving the meeting a value-chain scope rather than presenting it as a negotiation with one factory developer.
