The National Investigation Agency searched ten locations in Jammu and Kashmir on September 12, 2026 in an alleged cross-border terror conspiracy investigation, according to contemporaneous Kashmir News Trust reporting published by Kashmir Observer. Officials identified locations in Kupwara, Kulgam, Bandipora, Baramulla and Sopore, where investigators were examining suspected support for infiltrated terrorists.
The September report described searches of residential premises with assistance from local police and security personnel. Officials said the inquiry concerned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba handlers and a suspected local support network. It identified case RC-02/2026/NIA/JMU, originating in FIR 0024/2026 at Zakoora police station in Srinagar. The report did not announce a completed inventory of seized documents or other recovered material.
That case number also appears in an NIA release dated August 22, describing a separate ten-location search operation in Srinagar, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama and Budgam. The earlier release said the investigation began after a checkpoint arrest late on March 31 of a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba associate, from whom a hand grenade and live ammunition were allegedly recovered.
NIA said its investigation examined alleged communication links, shelter, reconnaissance and arrangements for moving and concealing terrorists. Investigators were also tracing finances and the source of arms and explosives. The August release said Pakistani terrorists allegedly connected to the conspiracy had been arrested during the investigation; it did not identify those arrests as an outcome of the later September searches.
The NIA release listed Section 23 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Sections 7 and 25 of the Arms Act and Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act in the case registration. It said evidence secured in August was being examined against other material already collected. The September report said details of documents or other material recovered during that operation were still awaited.
