Police units across Mizoram observed Police Commemoration Day with ceremonies dedicated to personnel who died while performing their duties. Senior police officers and representatives of other security agencies attended the principal wreath-laying ceremony at the headquarters of the 1st Battalion Mizoram Armed Police in Aizawl.
The observance commemorates the events of October 21, 1959, when 10 Central Reserve Police Force personnel were killed after Chinese forces ambushed them at Hot Springs in Ladakh. Their deaths became the historical basis for the annual national tribute to police personnel who make the ultimate sacrifice in service.
Mizoram remembered 54 members of its police force who have died in service since 1966. Commemorative programmes were conducted at police units in every district, extending the tribute beyond the main ceremony in Aizawl and allowing personnel across the state to honour their fallen colleagues.
