India opened their men's hockey campaign at the 2026 Asian Games with a 13-1 victory over Indonesia at Kawasaki Juko Stadium on September 20. Dilpreet Singh scored four times in the Pool A fixture. The International Hockey Federation's match record lists eight Indian scorers, with Shilanand Lakra and Sukhjeet Singh contributing two goals each.
Shilanand put India ahead in the sixth minute and Abhishek doubled the lead in the twelfth. Hockey India's account describes both finishes as rebounds: Shilanand followed Harmanpreet Singh's saved drag-flick, while Abhishek converted after goalkeeper Alam Fajar parried the initial attempt. Fajar also denied Mandeep Singh during the opening quarter, which ended with India two goals ahead.
The decisive separation came before half-time. Dilpreet scored in the eighteenth and nineteenth minutes, and Rajinder Singh also struck in the nineteenth. Mandeep added another goal in the twenty-first minute before Harmanpreet converted a penalty corner in the twenty-eighth. Those five second-quarter goals took India into the interval with a 7-0 lead, despite Fajar having saved a penalty stroke from Harmanpreet.
Indonesia captain Aulia Al Ardh converted a penalty corner in the thirty-third minute, with Hockey India reporting that a video referral confirmed the decision. Shilanand then scored again, Dilpreet completed his hat-trick and Sukhjeet opened his account before the third quarter ended. India therefore restored and extended their advantage rather than allowing Indonesia's goal to begin a sustained recovery.
Jugraj Singh, Sukhjeet and Dilpreet completed the scoring in the forty-seventh, forty-eighth and forty-ninth minutes respectively. Hockey India described Dilpreet's final finish as a deflection following a touch from Abhishek. Counting the actions in the official scoring log gives India ten field goals and three penalty-corner goals. The quarter-by-quarter progression was 2-0, 7-0, 10-1 and 13-1, documenting how the lead expanded across the match.
