India and Sri Lanka's September 9, 2026 defence agreements combined an equipment upgrade with institutional training links. The Indian Defence Ministry said the L70 arrangement covered six guns already supplied to the Sri Lankan Air Force and would be financed through an Indian government grant.
That is narrower than a new weapons acquisition: the disclosed programme concerns improving existing equipment. The ministry linked it to protection of critical assets, but did not provide a delivery timetable or technical acceptance results in the checked release.
Separate memorandums addressed cooperation between the National Defence Colleges and formalisation of the National Cadet Corps youth-exchange programme. Academic exchange and cadet visits are distinct from operational integration of the two armed forces.
Rajnath Singh and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also virtually inaugurated three Bailey bridges constructed by Indian defence personnel. Unlike the proposed gun work, those bridges were reported as constructed.
The outcomes should therefore be read at their respective stages: completed bridge construction, agreed equipment work and frameworks for future institutional exchanges. Combining them into one claim of delivered defence capability would overstate the record.
