Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting of 58 leaders from 40 parties on July 19, 2026 ahead of Parliament's Monsoon Session. The government outlined 19 sittings between July 20 and August 13, subject to the requirements of government business.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said both House secretariats had published the legislative business in Bulletin Part-II on July 16. The meeting gave parties an opportunity to raise issues alongside that published programme.
Allocating time to those subjects involves another institution. Lok Sabha's Business Advisory Committee has 15 members, including the Speaker as chair. Its official description says it recommends time for government legislative and other business referred to it by the Speaker in consultation with the Leader of the House.
The committee can also propose subjects for discussion on its own initiative. Opposition parties outside its membership can participate through special invitations, and its decisions are described as unanimous.
The distinction is practical: a session calendar sets the available days, a business programme identifies proposed work, and time allocation determines how much attention particular subjects receive. The July consultation and the committee process address different stages of organising the House's work.
