The September 9, 2026 railway announcement contained two different scales of work: eight approved projects and a broader plan for seven high-density corridors. Keeping those separate explains why the source URL refers to seven corridors while the report describes eight projects.

Akashvani reported about 1,196 kilometres of work across nine states, with a combined cost above Rs 20,800 crore and a 2029-30 completion target. That date is a target, not a statement that services have already changed.

A separate Railways Ministry release identifies five southern projects costing about Rs 10,021 crore. They cover Arakkonam-Renigunta, Whitefield-Bangarapet, Hosur-Omalur, Salem-Karur-Dindigul and Ghatkesar-Kazipet. Their reported lengths total about 540 kilometres.

The other three projects described by Akashvani concern Kharagpur-Jharsuguda, Katni-Pendra Road and Bilaspur-Pendra Road. Adding tracks on existing routes is intended to create more operating capacity; it does not, by itself, announce extra passenger services or a new timetable.

The corridor-wide ambition is therefore a framework within which particular projects are being approved. The ministry's project list provides a more useful basis for following construction than treating the seven-corridor announcement as one completed or fully funded expansion.
