The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a Delhi road project connecting Dwarka Expressway with Nelson Mandela Marg on July 1. The announced capital cost was Rs 6,969.67 crore.

The full 8.1-km project is not an 8.1-km tunnel. The ministry's breakdown includes 3.14 km of tunnel, ramps, elevated portions and surface road. It also distinguishes the main carriageway from associated junction works.

That geometry explains why the total length exceeds the underground section. The proposal is a connected route with approaches and intersection changes, not simply a bored passage between two portals.

The proposal places part of the tunnel beneath the Southern Ridge. The government described reducing surface disruption as a design objective.
