Russian drone attacks on Kyiv on September 23, 2026 killed two people and injured 45, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in his later update that evening. He reported that 18 injured people remained in hospital, including two in serious condition. The toll rose through successive city updates during the day as emergency crews responded to strikes in several districts.
Klitschko's reports described a petrol station and a four-storey business centre hit in Holosiivskyi district, as well as damage at a transport facility. In Darnytskyi, he reported a transport-infrastructure strike and a fire on a petrol station roof. Emergency services were sent to the affected sites while the drone attack was continuing.
In Solomianskyi district, the mayor reported a shop building hit and a strike at fourth-floor level on a nine-storey non-residential building. Subsequent updates described a drone falling within a non-residential complex in Pecherskyi and a warehouse fire in Sviatoshynskyi. These reports mapped damage across the capital rather than a single impact site.
Reuters journalists reported explosions and smoke over central Kyiv, and the agency's television footage showed a heavily damaged petrol station beside a busy highway. Railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia said the main station itself had not been damaged. Its head, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, nevertheless reported an attack on railway infrastructure and one injured worker. Oil company Ukrnafta said one of its Kyiv petrol stations was hit, its sixth such facility attacked in recent weeks.
The strikes coincided with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's address to the United Nations General Assembly. Reuters reported that he called for a halt to attacks on energy infrastructure before winter and for continued sanctions pressure on Russia. He said discussions with US President Donald Trump the previous day covered an energy ceasefire and additional Patriot air-defence missiles, but produced no agreement.
